US Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS) announced that more than 35,000 people have applied for its newly launched Homeland Defender positions, marking the highest number of applications for any job in the agency’s history. The hiring campaign, which began on September 30, aims to strengthen national security and enhance the integrity of the immigration system.
USCIS said that its extensive social media outreach has played a key role in attracting applicants. The agency is expediting recruitment to fill roles responsible for interviewing applicants, reviewing immigration filings, and identifying individuals who may pose security risks.
“The Homeland Defender Campaign has already been a tremendous success and has resonated with the American people. I’m pleased to announce that in addition to seeing a historic number of applications, we are starting to bring on applicants at a rapid pace,” said USCIS Director Joseph Edlow.
“USCIS is not wasting time, we are committed to implementing President Trump’s priorities. These candidates are not just applying for a job—they are applying to guard our values and defend our homeland. I look forward to onboarding many more Homeland Defenders in the coming weeks.”
The agency has already extended hundreds of job offers and expects to welcome its first group of Homeland Defenders soon. Many of the selected candidates come from law enforcement and military backgrounds, bringing experience in public service and homeland protection.
To attract skilled candidates, USCIS is offering incentives such as signing bonuses up to $50,000, student loan repayment programs, flexible work locations, and remote work options for certain positions. Entry-level roles are being filled through an expedited process that does not require a college degree, allowing the agency to onboard qualified candidates more quickly while providing competitive benefits.
