Passengers on the Lucknow-Barauni Express were left surprised recently when complaints of poor cooling in an AC coach led railway technicians to uncover four packets of illicit liquor hidden inside the air duct.
A video from the spot shows a technician pulling out one package after another, while a passenger quipped, “Someone must have kept them there to chill the drinks.”
Following the discovery, the Railways are said to have taken action, but social media users raised questions about who was behind the smuggling—passengers or insiders with access to the train.
One user, Hari Kumar NG, wrote on X, “Common passengers will not do such a thing. It can't be loaded when the train is in the station. It would have been loaded at the yard. So railway officials are responsible for smuggling.”
The incident has once again sparked concerns about security loopholes and the misuse of railway infrastructure. Railway officials have not yet issued a statement on the matter.
