Madhya Pradesh: 582 e-Buses To Be Operated In State

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Union Urban Ministry has approved the proposal sent by the state government under the E-bus service scheme to operate 582 electric buses in six cities. The plan envisages operating 150 electric buses in Indore, 100 in Bhopal, 100 in Gwalior, 100 in Jabalpur, 32 in Sagar, and 100 in Ujjain.

For bus operations in these six cities, the urban development and housing department has issued tenders and selected bus operators. A proposal has also been prepared for bus depot infrastructure construction under the PM E-Bus Service, in which 60% of the amount will be provided by the Central Government and the remaining 40% by the state government.

For the construction of charging infrastructure for electric buses, the Central government will provide 100% of the amount. Estimates for the construction of bus depots and charging stations have been prepared by urban bodies and approved by the state level steering committee.

After approval, the proposal has been sent to the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs. Bhopal and Jabalpur cities have already issued tenders for the construction of bus depot infrastructure. To promote the operation of light electric vehicles in the cities of the state, 190 charging points have been installed at 34 charging stations in Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur.

At present, 80 electric buses are being operated on urban routes in Indore. 40 buses are being operated under FAME scheme, while another 40 buses under AMRUT scheme.
