Woman orders Wetherspoons steak and is left in stitches when it arrives

A woman claims to have been left baffled after ordering a steak from Wetherspoons and getting an unexpected item on her plate instead - but it left many fans of the pub chain pointing out the same exact thing. Wetherspoons, founded in 1979, remains a popular food and drink outlet for millions of people thanks to its budget-friendly menu.

The chain is famed for its extensive all-day menu which includes a range of breakfast options and pub classics, as well as its different ‘clubs’ which are held each week and offer discounts on normal prices. On Tuesdays, it used to hold its Steak Club, while its Curry Club continues on Thursdays.

In May 2025, the Wetherspoons menu saw a shake-up resulting in its beloved Steak Club being axed, as steaks, gammon and mixed grills were all removed from the menu.

Instead of a steak deal on Tuesdays, customers can now expect gourmet burgers. It seems one customer didn’t realise this, though, and ordered what she believed to be a “steak” only to laugh in surprise when a pie was served to her instead.

The steak and ale pudding, made with peas, onion and red wine gravy and served with either mashed potatoes or chips, is a new addition to the Wetherspoons menu.

The woman shared her order blunder on TikTok in a video where, over the top of the footage, the words “real: you ordered steak in Wetherspoon” were added.

In the clip, her friend records her smiling and covering her face as the camera zooms in on her plate.

In the comments section, people shared their thoughts - with many keen to point out that steaks were removed from the menu several months ago.

One person said: “steak and kidney pudding, read the menu, they don't do steak anymore”.

Another said: “you didn't though did you? You ordered steak and kidney pudding”.

A third commented: “Steaks that were stopped almost 3months ago? If you wanted steak that bad you would have gone somewhere else”.

Someone else, implying they’re a Wetherspoons staff member, said: “I mean you didn’t because we haven’t done them since May.”

Another simply stated: “there’s no steak on the menu anymore”, while one person mocked: “Orders steak & ale PIE but expecting steak instead [crying laughing face emoji]”.

One Wetherspoons fan shared: “Can’t beat a steak and kidney pudding”.

Someone else, claiming to be a “manager for a Wetherspoons pub” added: “A. We stopped doing steaks as we are currently removing grills from all our restaurants. (Burgers and eggs are cooked on a separate clam grill with timers).

“B. Steaks did not have solid profit margins and many pubs steaks clubs have been dropping off over the years.

“C. We're trying to make our kitchens more efficient with faster cook times, Steaks took way too long.”
