After India clinched a five-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, excitement swept across the nation. Amid this fervor, Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi issued a sobering warning. She said that while India rejoices in victory, people must not ignore that the revenue from the tournament goes to the Pakistan Cricket Board. According to Chaturvedi, there is a risk that this money could be diverted by Pakistan to rebuild terrorist camps such as the one in Muridke—highlighting a serious national security concern.
Priyanka Chaturvedi took to social media to remind people that India's issues with Pakistan extend far beyond cricket. Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), she emphasized that, “India's problem with Pakistan is not the cricket pitch but the terror pitch they play on, which harms my nation. Every Indian should remember that.” She cautioned that the outcome of cricket matches should not overshadow the ongoing threat of terrorism from Pakistan.
The MP’s warning recalled the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, which killed 26 people and led to the launch of Operation Sindoor—a major counterterror campaign by the Indian Army targeting terrorist hideouts in places like Rawalpindi and Muridke. Chaturvedi argued that it would be irresponsible to ignore the security implications of cricket revenue supporting such activities.
Her remarks have reignited debate about the appropriateness of India-Pakistan cricket ties and whether sporting events should be suspended until Pakistan takes action against terror groups on its soil. Chaturvedi’s views have found support among those who contend that financial gains from cricket should never come at the expense of national security.
