The UK is bracing for a brutal storm with 65mph gales set to batter the country. Weather maps from WXCharts have turned dark purple ,indicating the chances of windy conditions across several areas in the UK on September 20.
The weather maps come as heavy rain and winds move across the country from this weekend, with the weather experts looking at the possibility of Storm Amy. According to the Met Office, the conditions in the country will turn wetter and windier from this week with a "risk of thunderstorms and small hail in the heaviest showers." And the latest maps suggest that the unsettled conditions will continue for few more days leaving many areas drenched.
The stormy conditions will enter the country at around 6am on September 19 and cover almost the whole of Scotland by September 20.
Areas around Wick, Inverness, and Aberdeen will experience the strongest winds, with 65mph gales possible during the same period.
Deputy chief meteorologist Tom Crabtree said: "We are keeping an eye on a deepening area of low-pressure which will develop over the North Atlantic during the coming days and might bring impactful weather to the UK, most likely on Sunday and Monday.
"At present, it's too early to say the precise impact this might have on the weather, but it's likely to bring widespread heavy rain and strong winds, most probably to the north of the UK.
"We are closely monitoring what the various computer models are suggesting and will keep people updated as our forecasts evolve over the next few days."
The Met Office's long-range forecast between September 13 and 22 reads: "Generally unsettled with low pressure dominating much of the period. This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect most of the UK at times.
"A deep low likely crosses the country later on the weekend clearing early next week bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Following this a return to showers with periods of longer spells of rain is likely.
"Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds, especially if further deeper lows affect the UK. Later in the period, there may be some spells of drier weather that develop, especially towards the south, with more in the way of sunshine.
"Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly below overall, but may rise above at times in drier, sunnier spells."
