The beautiful little UK town that's right on the border of England and Wales

A beautiful little town located just five miles from the Welsh border is known for its peacefulness, friendly atmosphere, rich history and vibrant independent shops. It is surrounded by stunning countryside and is popular among walkers and cyclists.

Oswestry, which is located in Shropshire and around 18 miles northwest of Shrewsbury, has a population of around 17,500 people. It boasts a strong community feel, with the locals priding themselves on offering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for visitors. The town's unique charm is down to its rich culture and lively street markets. Oswestry is also located close to a number of famous attractions on both sides of the England-Wales border, including the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Powis Castle.

The market town benefits from a range of thriving independent shops. There is also a market every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday which brings local traders together with the community.

From award-winning book shops and local craft sellers to iron work gifts, there is truly something available for everyone in Oswestry. As well as the host of shops, there are also artisan cafes and restaurants on offer.

There are significant landmarks in the town, including the Old Oswestry Hillfort and the nearby Whittington Castle. The old hillfort, spanning a huge 40 acres, is believed to have been the principal settlement of an Iron Age tribe.

Slightly further afield is Moreton Corbet Castle and the remains of Haughmond Abbey. They are located around 20 miles from Old Oswestry.

Oswestry hosts a number of events throughout the year, including food and drink festival. The Oswestry Balloon Carnival is one of the most popular, with around 20 hot air balloons taking to the skies above the town.

Oswestry also benefits from being located near attractions in both Wales and England. Tourists view the town as the ideal base to explore the borderlands of both nations.
