Brighton has been crowned one of the world's 20 happiest cities for 2025, according to a new survey. The UK seaside city clinched the 11th spot, making it the highest-ranking UK location on the list, surpassing London, Edinburgh, and Manchester. Time Out conducted a survey with over 18,000 people who live in cities around the world to gauge their happiness, quality of life, and experiences.
Participants rated their cities on various factors, including culture, nightlife, food, walkability, affordability, and overall quality of life. Respondents also answered questions specifically related to happiness, such as whether their city makes them feel happy, whether they find joy in everyday experiences, and whether they feel a sense of shared happiness among local residents.
The survey ranked Abu Dhabi as the happiest city in the world for 2025, followed by Medellín, Cape Town, Mexico City, and Mumbai.
Other cities in the top 20 include Melbourne, Sydney, Porto, and Glasgow, with Brighton being the UK's standout.
Brighton's strong ranking reflects both its natural beauty and vibrant cultural scene.
Known for its seafront, iconic pier, and pebble beach, the city offers residents easy access to the coast while maintaining a lively urban atmosphere.
Brighton is also recognised for its arts, music, and LGBTQ+ communities, making it a culturally rich city that attracts people seeking diversity and creativity.
The city's parks, pedestrian-friendly roads, and period buildings all contribute to an excellent standard of living.
Its blend of environmental and cultural attractions to ticked every box.
Time Out said: "Some indexes look at the environment, economy, and health. But then there are the little things: a sense of community in your neighbourhood, a city's green space and nature, art and culture, and even its beauty."
