The UK's best curry houses have been revealed in a prestigious awards ceremony as restaurants across the country battled to secure the top title. The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards 2025 (ARTA) were announced yesterday evening at an event held at the Hilton, Park Lane London - and your local may be on the list.
Curry is one of the nation's favourite dishes, with chicken tikka masala being a fan favourite among Brits. Curry houses have a strong claim on the restaurant market, with an estimated 12,000 Indian restaurants in the UK. The awards saw a whopping 950,000 food lovers vote for their favourite local restaurant as venues competed with each other.
Over 1,300 establishments were nominated but just 75 were crowned winners in their respective categories. The competing eateries are chosen based on customer nominations - and two lots of scoring phases.
The awards celebrate the very best of South Asian cuisine across the UK, recognising outstanding restaurants, chefs, and teams who elevate the dining experience through quality and consistency.
There were a series of accolades up for grabs including Newcomer of the Year, Streetfood Restaurant of the Year and Asian Fusion Restaurant of the Year.
Nu Delhi Restaurant Lounge in Belfast was given the highly sought-after title of Champion of Champions.
The restaurant, which is one of Belfast's most popular dining spots, also retained its title as Regional Restaurant of the Year for a fourth consecutive year.
Owner Nazim Din said the team was "truly honoured and overjoyed" to bring the award home.
"To be the first Northern Ireland restaurant to achieve this national recognition is a proud moment for our entire team," he said.

Whilst My Delhi in Newcastle, which has an impressive 4.8 score out of 5 on TripAdvisor, was voted the best street food restaurant of the year.
The multi-award-winning Indian restaurant serves authentic Delhi street food and was previously the winner of BBC show Britain's Top Takeaways.
Elsewhere, Maneki Ramen in Worcester was named the Japanese restaurant of the year. In London, Troia won Turkish Restaurant of the Year, whilst The Bombay in Swanley won Newcomer of the Year.
