LUCKNOW: Police on Monday arrested eight persons on charge of carrying out illegal conversion in UP 's Hardoi.
The arrests were made after one Adarsh of Adampur filed a complaint alleging Lal Singh of Bhaupurwa assembled people, lit candles, and conducted a prayer meeting where religious texts, including copies of the Bible, were circulated. The complaint accused Lalu of enticing villagers by promising monetary benefits and free medical treatment in lieu of conversion to Christianity.
During inquiry, eight individuals were found involved and subsequently arrested, police said. They were booked under Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
