NEW DELHI: Seven people were arrested by Wednesday in connection with the incident of police personnel being attacked in Assam's Hojai the day before.
At least 14 police personnel were injured after a mob attacked a police team and damaged police vehicles in Assam’s Hojai district on Tuesday, August 12. The incident took place in the Digholbali area, news agency ANI reported.
"Yesterday (August 12), at least 14 police personnel, including an Inspector-level officer, were injured after a mob attacked them. The locals detained a heavy vehicle and the driver. When a police team reached the spot to rescue the driver, some people engaged in an argument with the police team, and some of them started to attack the police personnel. Many more people came to the area and vandalised police vehicles and attacked police personnel. 14 police personnel were injured in the incident, and three police vehicles were damaged," Akhilesh Singh, IGP (Law & Order) of Assam Police, was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
"Last night and today morning, I personally visited the spot. 10 persons' names appeared in the FIR copy, and seven accused have been arrested so far. Further investigation is underway. The situation is now under control," he added, as cited by ANI.
