In a significant diplomatic move, US special representative Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on Monday for key defence talks, shortly after president Donald Trump announced fresh supplies of Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine.
According to the reports of AFP, The visit comes at a pivotal stage, with Russia intensifying aerial attacks on Ukraine—currently in its fourth year of war—firing swarms of drones almost daily.
Earlier this month, Washington had signalled a pause in certain arms deliveries to Kyiv. Trump has since reversed course, taking a firm stand against Russian president Vladimir Putin over escalating attacks and stalled US-led peace efforts.
“We welcome US Special Representative Keith Kellogg to Ukraine,” wrote Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to President Volodymyr Zelensky, on Telegram. “Peace through strength is the principle of US President Donald Trump, and we support this approach.”
Trump, speaking on Sunday, said “We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need.” But, he clarified that the US would not pay for them.
Kellogg’s visit coincides with President Trump’s scheduled meeting with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington later Monday, in what is expected to be a pivotal discussion on the alliance's future support to Ukraine.
